Bangladesh Betar is the government-owned radio station of Bangladesh, originally established on December 16, 1939, as All India Radio on Nazimuddin Road in the historical area of Dhaka. In 1962, the station relocated to its current facility in Shahbag. Following the significant events of 1971, Bangladesh Betar transitioned from its prior role as a propaganda tool to an essential platform that supported the nation in achieving independence.

With the momentous declaration of independence on March 26, 1971, the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra commenced operations, playing a crucial role by broadcasting motivational programs and advocating for the cause of the liberation war. Since Bangladesh's victory on December 16, 1971, Radio Bangladesh has been operational across all its stations, notably setting up a 1000 KW transmitting station in Dhamrai, Dhaka, in 1976.

Further developments saw the Dhaka Broadcasting House relocate to the National Broadcasting House at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on July 30, 1983. Consequently, the former Broadcasting House at Shahbagh became the administrative headquarters of Bangladesh Betar.

Presently, listeners have access to Bangladesh Betar's diverse programs through online radio streaming services. The platform enables live listening to AM and FM broadcasts via its website or dedicated mobile applications. These streams include AM 693 KHz and FM 88.8 MHz, providing audiences with updates on news, traffic, sports - particularly cricket - agriculture, demographics, weather updates, as well as offering a rich source of music and entertainment.
